Alaska Center for the Performing Arts
Anchorage, Alaska

The central theme of this multi-theater performance center is light: it is plentiful in the Alaskan summer, but scarce in the winter. Capitalizing on summer months, staggered gabled glass foyers frame each of the three multistory entrances to the building. Providing an alternate light source around spindly columns, lighting elements add a glow to the structural framing mimicking trees. The stages are of varying sizes and spaces, fitting the needs of an intimate gathering or a major symphony.
